Who We Are
Deaf Women Aloud Initiative (DWAI) is a women-led, disability-inclusive NGO registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), committed to advancing the rights, visibility, and well-being of Deaf women and girls across Nigeria.
We work to eliminate barriers to education, healthcare, and civic participation — tackling gender-based violence, stigma, and discrimination through advocacy, capacity-building, and community-focused interventions.

To empower Deaf women and girls to access sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) services, for the promotion of an inclusive society — without communication barriers or exclusion.

A Nigeria where SRHR information and services are fully accessible to Deaf women and girls — where sign language, deaf culture, and equal participation are embraced at every level of society.

DWAI paid a courtesy visit to the Gwagwalada Area Council Chairman and presented four key proposals to strengthen disability-inclusive healthcare, including a dedicated health budget, community dialogue, a Disability Desk Officer, and improved disability-related health data.

DWAI participated in the WHO Africa Youth Consultative Forum in Abuja, advocating for disability-inclusive healthcare and meaningful participation of Deaf women, girls, and young persons with disabilities in Africa’s health policies and programmes.

DWAI collaborated with Alone, Not Lonely Women with Disabilities Initiative (ANLWWDI) under the #PadAGirlWithDisability initiative to provide sanitary pads to 312 girls with disabilities across three special-needs schools in the FCT.
